I can’t stop laughing at Harry running the fuck away, the boy who lived ladies and gentlemen.

….You realize, of course, that Hermione Granger lit a teacher on fire when she was eleven, and kept a person alive in a jar for a year when she was fourteen, and studies dark and forbidden magics for kicks, and is one of the brightest and strongest witches of her era. If she came at me, even wandless, I would aparate to Neptune to get away from her.

Hermione Granger also:

punched Draco Malfoy in the nose for being an idiot

purposefully performed a confundus charm on whatshsface WHILE HE WAS FLYING just so Ron would win (omfg that is so fucking dangerous)

literally pulled a fucking Bourne Identity on her parents and managed to set them up in fucking Australia (jesus christ she literally made it so that she NEVER EXISTED wtf that’s so fucking 007)

Convinced the Ministry of Magic to give her an incredibly dangerous and volatile device that allowed her to ALTER TIMELINES COMPLETELY (just because she was so smart, literally, that is the reason, her “potential”)

Has enough basic survival skills and badass magic to literally disappear to the middle of nowhere and flourish AND figure out Voldemort’s plot with Harry

Hermione also figures out not only what Voldemort’s plan is, but generally how to beat it, WAY BEFORE VOLDEMORT EVER DOES. Why? because she is just that much smarter and better at magic than everybody else

in conclusion: Voldemort wishes he could be as awesome as Hermione, that’s why he wants to kill her so bad.

Can we rehave this series with hermione as the protagonist.

I’ve always just sort of assumed that “The brightest witch of her age” had nothing to do with years-old and was more a statement to the effect that she was the brightest of the time. Period. Dang, smart girls rock.

I love this…and wish everyone could see it. She wasn’t one of Harry’s sidekicks - she was the reason ANYTHING got done at all, with any degree of effectiveness, in any of the books.

Without Hermione the series definitely would have ended after book 4 because Harry would for sure have died. Like, immediately.

If I come off like a bitch because I want my students to listen, because I want them to treat each other with respect, I don’t care. If I write kids up for being racist and homophobic I don’t care if I come off like the bad guy. I’ll be the bad guy every day. I’ll be the bad guy EVERY FUCKING DAY. And if I get fired for it I won’t care. I will not care. I WILL NOT CARE.
Yes, I told your kid I didn’t want him to grow up and be ugly. Yes, I told your kid that it was disgusting, that I was disgusted with him. That I was disappointed. That I was sad and angry. Yes, I said your kid was picking on a child for something they can’t control. Yes, I watched your kid cry.
I hope they cry. They need to cry. It’s not okay. Their behavior is not okay. They won’t feel a fraction of the pain they are causing that other kid. They won’t have the internalized bullshit that kid deals with.
I want to cry.
I hate my city. I hate what it does to people. I hate what it does to people over time.
I hate that my mixed boy brings up he’s part Black all the time as if it’s something I should judge. I hate that my white kids don’t understand why what they’re saying is wrong. I hate that I have many students who aren’t Latino that I have to remind to not make fun of Spanish or Mandarin. I hate that I have to tell my students how to not be racist. I hate that I have so many homophobic students. I hate that I interact with children who are afraid of themselves. That their environment makes them afraid of their culture, of who they are. That when I wrote up a Latina girl she asked me if it was ok to speak to her mom in Spanish. I hate that I can’t make them understand. That I am a part of this. That who I am factors into this. That I can’t get out. That no one can. That I am part of the problem. I will always be part of the problem. It’s hard to watch my children suffocate. And I know my students will live their lives out, they have high and lows. But it’s hard to watch them become ashamed of who they are. That there is nothing I can do to stop or slow that process. It’s hard to watch people progress in racism, homophobia, sexism and not be able to slow it down. I can’t make a dent. And that’s hard to swallow because I know they aren’t fully developed, and I feel like there should be enough positive outside forces to make an impact, but there aren’t. There just aren’t.
And I know how that feels. I know how both of them feel. And there is a part of me that is still ashamed of who I am because of the environment I live in and the choices I make. And I know how much it hurts, and it’s hard to watch my students hurt in a similar way. And there’s nothing I can really do to make it better. I can’t even make it better for myself.
